The Foundation of Pool Care
Calculating your pool's volume is the single most important step in pool ownership. Why? Because every chemical dose—chlorine, acid, salt—is based on Gallons.
The "Guessing" Penalty
If you think you have 20,000 gallons but only have 15,000, you are consistently overdosing your pool by 33%. This damages equipment and irritates skin. Underestimating leads to algae outbreaks.
Rectangular vs Freeform
Rectangles are easy (L x W x Avg Depth). For freeform (kidney/lagoon) pools, treat them as two circles or ovals combined, or use a chemical dilution test for 100% accuracy.
Not sure if your math is right? Add a precise amount of Sodium Bicarbonate (Baking Soda). If you add enough to raise Alkalinity by 10ppm in your calculated volume, and it actually raises it by 10ppm, your math is perfect. If it raises it by 15ppm, your pool is smaller than you think.
